Social media trends, library book displays, bookstore recommendations, coming soon to streaming, Amazon Reviews...Who can you trust?
Bookrata is the first content rating system for books designed to give readers transparency, easy to digest ratings, and control over what they choose to read. Bookrata uses a custom AI algorithm meticulously trained to recognize words, scenes, and context in six different categories.
Bookrata allows you to filter content based on your values, not ours. You can filter books by their overall rating, specific category ratings, or category ranges. Once you have selected your desired content, use tags to search for the themes, genres, and stories you want to read.
Bookrata allows you to search for the ratings of specific books.
You will get full membership access to the Bookrata library, content filtering, tag search, and book search. You will also help us grow our library. Higher tiers will receive memberships to gift to their friends and access to our private Facebook group, where Brock and Marcus will actively communicate with our supporters.
Many states across the country have passed laws requiring schools to remove explicit books from their libraries. Here's an example of one from the state of Utah. If your child had brought this book home, would you have assumed it was fine because it was in their school library?
We only rate books that are in our legal possession. Authors and publishers deserve to profit from their work! Marcus is an independently published author and understands how important it is to get paid for his creative work. We don't sell or release any of the books we rate. By default, we link each book with an affiliate link to Amazon, but are happy to add an author's preferred bookstore if requested.
Our filtering system allows you to choose the content you are comfortable with AND search for up to five tags to find the stories you want. Publishers can manipulate category, genre, and key words when they publish on Amazon to try and push their books to the top of the rankings. But in Bookrata, the AI algorithm picks five tags based on the actual themes of the book. You aren't stuck by genre. If you want a historical-fantasy-regency-romance, you can find it at Bookrata.
If it's not in our library, you can request it with a credit or in the FB group.
Yes, you can, and we encourage you to do so. There are other sites that already do this as well. But the results will only be as good as the data.
One recent bestseller has over 400k reviews with an average 4.7 star rating. Do you have time to read 400k reviews? It's probably more words than the book itself! But remember, those ratings are the opinions of readers who have their own values and morals. Most of the reviews are about the story, not the content. Bookrata ratings focus exclusively on content. It's like the difference between Rotten Tomatoes and the MPAA for movies.
Yes, you could have AI compile those reviews, but what specifically is it looking for? How reliable is the information the AI is compiling? How accurate is the AI's response? There's no way to know.
Our system does not rate books based on recommended age. Who are we to tell you what is appropriate for your kids? Our system is easy to learn and can be read at a glance. The power is in YOUR hands to choose what is best for YOUR family.
If you are an author and want to connect to the exact readers who want the content you write, you can submit your book to Bookrata for free. You can find instructions here. Beat other publishers and authors to the top of the list by supporting us here with the author add-on.
We will always keep it free for authors to submit their books to be rated and included int he Bookrata library. We try to get through submissions as quickly as possible, but can't guarantee how long it will take based on the number of submissions. We use a proprietary AI algorithm, tweaked, tested, and revised through hundreds of tests to ensure consistent, comprehensive, and accurate ratings for every book.
We use LLMs with high privacy protections and ensure our settings prohibit any external leakage of data. We test the system frequently to audit the posted privacy and security policies.
1. Completely free of explicit or mature themes, featuring clean language, innocent romance (e.g., crushes, flirting), mild conflict without violence, healthy lifestyle choices, educational or positive religious themes, and no mention of LGBTQ+ identities. 2. Contains mild, non-explicit themes, such as light insults, romantic affection (e.g., kissing), fantastical action, unhealthy habits or illness as secondary plot points, faith-promoting stories, minor characters referenced as LGBTQ+ with no detail. This level emphasizes emotional or adventurous storytelling without mature details. 3. Includes implied or moderately described mature themes, such as mid-level swearing, fade-to-gray sexual references, realistic fighting with minimal gore, struggles with mental health or addiction, personal faith crises, characters navigating gender dysphoria, PRIDE themes or events. Content is plot-driven, balancing realism with restraint to maintain narrative integrity. 4. Features infrequent but noticeable explicit content, such as strong profanity, detailed sexual imagery, graphic violence, recreational drug use, negative portrayals of specific religions, or emphasized LGBTQ+ relationships and transitions. While less pervasive than Tier Five, these elements are still prominent. 5. Content is dominated by frequent graphic elements, including extreme profanity, explicit sexual scenes, sexual fetishes, gory violence, glorified harmful behaviors (e.g., drug addiction, alcoholism), graphic disease or injury depictions, satanic or demonic themes or rituals, child gender transitions, graphic LGBTQ+ sex, and abuse ragrding a character's identity. Pervasive focus on extreme explicit content.
Our goal is to rate every book ever written! With the use of AI, ours is the first scalable solution to book rating and will continue to grow. We are working to partner with publishers to add books more quickly. If you are a publisher or author, please reach out.
Bookrata uses a custom AI algorithm to review and create our book ratings. The algorithm was developed, written, and tested by Brock and Marcus. We operate under fair use doctrine for review purposes, using only legally owned books and generating ratings as legitimate literary analysis. Using AI for ratings falls under a 2025 federal court decision that allows the upload of books to AI for training purposes, to include book reviews.
